How can I free up space in webmail?

This FAQ article describes how to detect or delete large emails in webmail. This frees up storage space ("mailbox quota") again.

Detect large emails in webmail

In this section we describe how to detect large emails.

To do this, go to world4you webmail at https://webmail.world4you.com and log in.

Your emails will be listed in the inbox.

Click Options at the top.

Open the "Sorting column" drop-down menu and click Size.

After that, the emails are sorted by size in descending order (i.e. from large to small), and the emails are also displayed. The e-mail in the top row is the largest and thus has the greatest impact on the storage space of your mailbox.

E-mails with the unit "MB" (for megabyte) occupy more storage space than e-mails with the unit B (for bytes). In the example, this means that 29 MB occupies more storage space than 947 B.

So if you want to "clean up" your mailbox and delete e-mails based on their size, start with those e-mails that have "MB" listed as their unit. This will have the greatest effect.

Tip: especially e-mails with pictures are often very large, and therefore occupy several megabytes (MB) of storage space.

Attention: The e-mails are not deleted immediately, but first moved to the "virtual Trash".

This can be compared to the household trash in your own four walls: First, the trash is collected (= Trash). But only when the trash is taken out and collected, it is finally disposed of.

In order to free up space in your mailbox, it is therefore necessary not only to collect the e-mails in the "Trash" folder, but to delete them permanently. We describe this in the next section.

Delete emails permanently

To delete emails permanently, switch to the "Trash" folder in the webmail.

If you want to delete an e-mail permanently, click on it again and select Delete in the upper right corner.

Tip: If you want to delete the entire "Trash" at once, right-click on the "Trash" folder and then click on Empty.

Emptying the "Trash" folder or deleting the emails in this folder will free up disk space.

You can always check the effect of deleting on your disk space by looking at the free space.

Check free space

In the left, lower area of the webmail you get an information about the storage space consumption of your mailbox ("mailbox quota").

The purple bar indicates the usage, the white bar the remaining available storage space ("mailbox quota"). Only when e-mails are finally deleted does the storage space consumption decrease.

Important note: The mailbox quota is displayed with a slight delay in the customer area!
